What does a ceramic coating actually do?
It is a liquid that bonds to your paint and hardens on top of it. Four things change.
- Water beads and runs off instead of sitting on the panel.
- Dust and road film have less to hold on to, so a wash goes faster and the car looks clean longer between them.
- The color reads deeper, because the surface over it is harder and glossier than bare paint.
- It lasts two to five years. Where your car lands in that range depends on the coating and on how you care for it.
It does not have to stop at the body panels either. Glass, wheels, and the seats inside can be coated too. How far you take it is your call.
| What we will tell you a coating does | What we will not tell you it does |
|---|---|
| Beads water and lets it run off the panel | Stop a rock chip. That is film's job, not a coating's |
| Makes dust and road film let go easier | Replace washing. You still wash the car |
| Gives the color more depth and gloss | Fix paint that is already dull. Correction does that, and it happens first |
| Lasts two to five years | Last forever, or come with a promise we cannot put in writing |
| Goes on paint, glass, wheels and the seats | Anything we cannot show you on your own car before you decide |
That last row is the policy. If we cannot point at it on your vehicle, we do not sell it to you.
What does West Texas actually do to a car?
Three things, and a coating only answers one of them honestly.
Dust. Wind out here puts dirt on every vehicle in the county on an ordinary Tuesday, with nothing happening. Cars come through our door dusty all week long. That is the baseline here, not an event.
Sun. Vehicles in this part of the state sit outside in it. Most people who ask us about coating are really asking about the sun.
Road debris. Open highway, open lots, and whatever the truck ahead of you kicks up.
The one a coating changes is the first. It does not change how much dust lands on your car. It changes how hard that dust is to get back off — water runs, dirt has less to grab, and the wash gets shorter. If you park outside in Lubbock and you care what the car looks like on Friday, that is the argument, and it is a real one.
The other two get their own sections below.
Is there a downside to ceramic coating a car?
Four, and we would rather you hear them from us.
- You still wash the car. A coating makes washing easier and keeps the car looking clean longer. It does not cancel washing.
- It locks in whatever is underneath. The coating takes on the finish it goes over, so dull or swirled paint gets sealed in that way. Correction comes first, and that is more work and more cost than the coating alone. We read the paint before we quote.
- It is not impact protection. A rock on the Loop does not care that your paint is coated.
- It ends. Two to five years is the honest range. It is a finish you renew, not a thing you buy once.
None of that makes a coating a bad purchase. It makes it a specific purchase, and the people happiest with one knew the reason going in.

Does a coating protect my paint from the sun?
We are not going to tell you it does.
Here is the reason. We can show you water beading on your own panel, and the depth in the color under the shop lights. We can tell you two to five years, because that is the range the coating carries. We cannot show you what your paint would have looked like in three years without it — so we do not sell that.
What we will say about the sun is the part we can back: a coated car is easier to keep clean, and a car that gets washed more often spends less time under a layer of West Texas dust.
If a claim about sun damage is what decides your purchase, ask for it in writing, from whoever is making it. We would rather under-promise now than be quoted back to ourselves in a year.
Coating or film — which one do I need?
They do different jobs. Most people asking this want one of them specifically and do not know it yet.
| Ceramic coating | Paint protection film | |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | A liquid that bonds to the paint and hardens over it | A clear film laid over the panel |
| What it is for | Gloss, color depth, and easier cleaning | Impact — rock chips and road debris on the panels it covers |
| Where it goes | Paint, glass, wheels, and the seats inside | Full front — hood and fenders — plus door guard, door handle cups, headlights and mirrors |
| Set packages | None. Coverage comes out of a quote | None. Coverage comes out of a quote |
| The question it answers | "I want the car to look like this and stay easy to clean" | "I do not want the highway chewing up the front of my car" |
Tell us how you drive and where the car sits, and we will tell you which one your car needs.

What happens when you bring the car in?
Four steps, and the first three cost you nothing.
- Walk in. No appointment needed. Bring the car during shop hours, or call or text to book a time.
- We read the paint. Under the shop lights, with you standing there. You see what we see.
- You decide. Correction and coating, or coating alone if the paint is already right. Panels only, or glass, wheels and seats too.
- We do the work, and you pick the car up when it is done.
So is it worth it for your car?
Worth it if:
- The car sits outside and you are tired of how it looks between washes.
- You want the color to read deeper, and to hold for years rather than weeks.
- The paint is in good shape, or you are willing to have it corrected first.
- You want the glass, the wheels, or the seats covered too.
Not worth it if:
- What you actually want is protection from rock chips. That is film.
- You were told it means you never wash the car again.
- The paint needs real correction and you would rather skip that part. A coating over neglected paint locks the neglect in.
Between those two lists there is a middle, and in the middle the deciding factor is the paint itself. That is a look under the lights, not a debate.
Bring the car by and we will tell you what it needs — including if the answer is nothing yet. We read the paint, tell you whether correction comes first, and quote the coverage you want.
